Home-grown goods and home-made items
All around the Leitnhof, you’ll find sun-kissed grapes, apples, apricots, berries, and much more. Natural products that have benefited from the rich soil and optimal growing conditions – as well as various herbs that you would ordinarily expect only in southern climes.
And just as spring slowly turns to summer and then to autumn, the assortment of products we carry likewise shifts with the seasons. Of course, we place a premium on freshness – but we are also skilled in using these raw ingredients to make such long-lasting products as fruit spreads, syrups, juices, preserves, dried fruits, seasonings, salt, and aromas. You’ll notice the extra portion of love included in every product, and our wine-making skills speak for themselves!
Products you can sample and purchase in our new Gourmet Boutique. And where you can enjoy a hearty Leitnhof breakfast, brunch, or aperitif right on the spot!
Tomatoes, onions, olive oil, and a few seasonings – that’s all our sugo (tomato sauce) contains. And you can also make it yourself – preferably using tomatoes from our garden. That’s because our tomatoes have been allowed to fully ripen in the Upper Adige sun. Your kitchen will fill with a heady aroma as the tomatoes simmer on the stove. Another option: Sugo in a jar!
Our Leitnhof apples thrive on the pure water and plentiful sunshine of our farmstead. That’s why they’re so aromatic, with an exciting interplay of sweetness and tartness. So fresh that they’re practically still carry the warming rays of the sun when they come to our shelves. So fresh that they’ll keep for weeks after you purchase them – so that, even when you’re back home, you’ll remember the wonderful Leitnhof every time you bite into one of them!
Nature’s bounty: A variety of berries, cherries, blackberries, peaches, apricots, plums, figs, grapes, apples, pomegranates, almonds, nuts, kiwis, and persimmons. And during your vacation with us, we’d like to share the bounty with you! You can also purchase them in our Gourmet Boutique. Take them home with you as a remembrance of your magnificent stay at the Leitnhof.
Our garden is home to a variety of lettuces, cucumbers, tomatoes, and much more. Sage, thyme, oregano, and rosemary are all to be found here. You are welcome to carefully harvest a sprig or two – or more! – and use them to whip up a range of tasty dishes: pasta dishes, meat dishes, or just as they are, for a refreshing and healthy snack! Help yourself during your stay here!
Southerners love lavender! If you’d like to freshen up your linen closet, car, or office, or if you just appreciate the calming scent of lavender at bedtime, then you might want to grab a few of these pouches. Each scent bag contains dried lavender blossoms from our garden. Hint: When the scent gradually fades, you can “revive” it by just pressing it a little – and already, the relaxing scent of the south will come back to you! Available for purchase in our Gourmet Boutique.
Some of the fruits from our gardens come into the cooking pot and are made into delectable fruit spreads. We use a minimum of sugar, and the sliced and diced fruits are subjected to careful heat-treatment. This yields tasty fruit spreads that are rich in vitamins. In fact, you might want to forego spreading them on bread and just eat them right out of the jar with a spoon! For sale in our Gourmet Boutique.
We take fully-ripened fruits and blossoms and process them into juice or syrups. We exercise great care when doing this as we were taught in our family. But it’s worth our time and effort! The results are delicious juices and syrups like we remember from our childhood. Take some back home with you as a souvenir of St. Pauls! Available for purchase in our Gourmet Boutique.
Freshly squeezed apple juice is the ideal thirst-quencher for the whole family. To make our naturally turbid apple juice, we first wash the apples. They are then pressed, and the resultant juice is very slowly heat-treated to make it storable. Nothing but the pressed, heat-treated juice comes into our bottles. You can buy it in our Gourmet Boutique.
Milder than vinegar, more delicate than citrus: Verjus is the sour juice of unripe wine grapes. Known for thousands of years as a seasoning and therapeutic agent, it had fallen into disuse. We find it remarkable, and have resumed production. We harvest the grapes while they’re still unripe – right when they begin producing juice and a little sugar. Might verjus be just the thing your kitchen needs? For sale in our Gourmet Boutique.
Athletes, hikers, children, and granny: Everyone loves our dried fruits. It takes a lo-oong time to dry the fruit, but it’s worth it! This process conserves the flavor and high vitamin content. Available for purchase in our Gourmet Boutique.
We have a great use for those sun-ripened cocktail tomatoes from our garden that don’t end up in our salads or on our pizzas and pastas: We dry them, season them with salt and oregano, and let them tell an eloquent tale of summertime in St. Pauls. A wonderful side-dish to a glass of wine. Available for purchase in our Gourmet Boutique.
AKA cresses. They are smaller than the young plants of various vegetables and herbs, but are harvested later as sprouts. They boast a whole range of intense flavors, depending upon the variety, and display different colors, shapes, and textures that we’re sure you’ll find quite intriguing. Our son Ulrich now grows them in several different varieties. We’d like to invite you to come and sample them! For sale in our Gourmet Boutique.
Our bee honey has a low water content. That means that it is concentrated and has an intense flavor. Our gardens, with their plethora of blossoms, are a paradise for the bees. In the wintertime and in the spring, the bee hives are positioned in the Pauls Field. In the summer and autumn, the bees migrate to higher elevations. Our son Ulrich is a skilled beekeeper. For sale in our Gourmet Boutique.
Our chickens are free to scamper about, scratch in the dirt, and live life as they please. They live in a stall with nests and a roost and can come and go during the day as they wish. They are fed high-quality, plant-based feed containing no GMOs. Happy chickens mean delicious and nutritious eggs.
Small, but full of flavor! Quail eggs are the little sisters of hen’s eggs, but boast an intense aroma. You can boil them or fry them just like regular eggs. Hildegard von Bingen attributed a salubrious effect to them. And modern alternative medical practitioners claim that they support our immune system. In any case, we can heartily recommend them!
Wines reflect the character of the soil upon which the grapes are grown, the local weather, and also the skill and traditions of the vintners. With every sip of wine, you will become better acquainted with our locality. The secret to producing truly magnificent wines: Strive for small quantities! By selecting only the best grapes during the harvest – only the fully ripe and flawless grapes – we can create the finest wines.
The St. Pauls Cathedral dominates our village. Its bells define the rhythm of life in this area. We are convinced that even the grapes in our vineyards resonate with their tolling. Reason enough to name our own wines after the individual bells.
Our house wine, the “Ziemlich bester Freund” is certainly our farmstead’s “bestie.” A wine to enjoy in both sorrow and joy. A friend for life, made from the Vernatsch grape. Truly a child of South Tyrol.
The Vernatsch has a color reminiscent of ripe cherries, with ruby-red nuances. It is both delicate and inviting. The Vernatsch is well-balanced, displaying no extremes of tartness or dryness – and is thus well-suited to every taste. Our Vernatsch is best enjoyed when young. It has a fruity and fresh character so that it can accompany practically any dish. Here in South Tyrol, it is especially favored as an accompaniment to a “Marende” (hearty midday snack).
The “Ascension of Mary” bell was dubbed “the Crier” by the locals, and is rung on high holy days.
This Merlot Rosé is charming, chic, and evinces a strong character – it radiates joy of life and ambition. Rose-colored hues evoke emotions. A fine fruitiness with hints of current, cherry, strawberry, and plum are overlaid with a mild spiciness, giving it a well-rounded and smooth body. With a juicy finish that awakens an appetite for more.
Anna-Maria is the biggest of the nine bells hanging in the 85-meter-tall tower of our village church – which the locals used to refer to as the “Country Cathedral.” It has a weight of five tons, and when it rings, it emanates a deep “A” note.
A stately presence and a pronounced character – the Merlot certainly attracts a lot of attention. It has a lovely red hue, a robust body, and a sustained palate. The story continues as it develops a range of aromas, from plum, black current, and fine licorice. Balanced tannins and an elegant acidic structure support the fruity, long finish that concludes the tale.
The bell dedicated to St. Joseph strikes eleven o’clock – that used to be the signal for the approach of midday and the well-earned work pause in the vineyards.
Traditionally, our saucy and lively Chardonnay waited till the stroke of eleven before appearing on the scene. It glows with an elegant greenish yellow hue and is characterized by the gentle aromas of meadow blossoms, exotic fruits, banana, and honeydew. The perfect way to lend the day a little liveliness and freshness, all the way till the evening. A wine like our country: Juicy, with a balanced body and fruity finish.
